Wicked Nights by Gena Showalter (Review)

Title: Wicked Nights (Angels of the Dark #1)
Author: Gena Showalter
Published: June 26, 2012

Synopsis: Leader of the most powerful army in the heavens, Zacharel has been deemed nearly too dangerous, too ruthless–and if he isn’t careful, he’ll lose his wings. But this warrior with a heart of ice will not be deterred from his missions at any cost…until a vulnerable human tempts him with a carnal pleasure he’s never known before.

Accused of a crime she did not commit, Annabelle Miller has spent four years in an institution for the criminally insane. Demons track her every move, and their king will stop at nothing to have her. Zacharel is her only hope for survival, but is the brutal angel with a touch as hot as hell her salvation–or her ultimate damnation?

My Review: (By Leanne Elise Smith)

As a fan of Gena Showalter’s series Lords of the Underworld, I was first introduced to the angel Zacharel in the series seventh novel, The Darkest Secret. Zacharel’s emotionless, cold and unsettling presence was so at odds with the loving nature you’d imagine an angel to have–well, he cast a very firm mark on my interest radar. Something about him screamed for a closer inspection… I really wanted to know more! So imagine my surprise when Gena unraveled a brand new series called Angels of the Dark, casting Zacharel ‘s story in the light!

We first meet Annabel and discover she’s in terrible danger, both from inside and outside the institution where she’s been committed for the last four years. Despite all that she’s been through though, the woman we meet is no meek and shriveling little mouse. Annabelle is feisty, rebellious and seriously pissed at the powerful forces working against her. If anything at all, she’s merely resigned to her fate, at the mercy of evil–until the night Zacharel is sent to unravel the mystery of the dark disturbances reigning down over the institution… And they lead him straight to her…

Excerpt: Long ago he’d built a dam to hold back his memories of the past, a barrier he’d desperately needed. Would always need, it seemed. He refortified that dam now, blanking his mind of anything but the present.

At first glance, the woman appeared to be asleep. But then her head lolled to the side, her attention seemingly ensnared by the demon she shouldn’t be able to see. Horror, anger and fear suddenly pulsed from her.

Had she, a mere human, somehow sensed the serpe?

Curiosity courses through Zacharel as he wills himself to materialize before her eyes, allowing her to see him in his natural form. From that moment forward, Zacharel’s wall of cold indifference against human nature begins to crumble as he’s drawn into the mystery that surrounds Annabel’s world. It is the presence of this human woman, hunted by demons, that initially awakens Zacharel’s nature to protect… But it is the woman herself who draws him closer, reopening old wounds to expose the man that still does dwell deep within him…

Stories of the angels are as old as time, but Gena Showalter brings us this delightfully steamy tale to slowly unfold before our eyes. Awakening emotion and desire are supposed to be beyond an angel’s comprehension, but for Zacharel it is so much more than that. It is a journey of salvation that has only just begun…

The story was incredibly delightful! Watching an angel discovering the delights of humanity made me laugh at times and steamed up my screen at other times.

Excerpt: He had not wondered about these things before, had not cared who did what with whom. He, who had seen humans engage in every sexual act imaginable, had never even contemplated a female in an erotic way. Had never cared enough about anyone to experience any type of jealousy.

Until now. Until Annabelle.

Zacharel’s attraction to her was driving his thoughts, he knew that, but he had no weapons to combat it. He was too inexperienced, had never come against anything like this. Somehow, though, he had to find a way to resist her. He also knew that once a man feasted at the table of temptation, he would not leave it, would glut himself again and again.

The mystery that surrounds the other side of this story are the demons that relentlessly pursue Annabelle. What they want and why they torment her makes for a wonderfully suspenseful paranormal romance.

In Bed with Mr. Wrong by Katee Robert (review)

Title: In Bed with Mr. Wrong
Release date: January 13, 2014
Author: Katee Robert
Blurb: The blind date from hell is about to get hotter…
Brianne Nave is never doing her friends a favor again. When they begged her to go on a blind date, she didn’t expect someone so perfectly gorgeous. She’s a mousy librarian—totally not in this man’s league. And judging by his odd reaction when she opens the door, he knows it, too.
Air Force Pararescuer Ryan Flannery avoids his hometown at all costs. He’s not thrilled about the date until he’s shocked silent by the prickly little librarian’s sweet curves and kissable lips…and her smart mouth. But then an argument leads to a kiss that spirals out of control. How can two people have so little chemistry outside the bedroom when they fit together so perfectly in it?
When their friends strand them in a cabin to “work things out,” Bri’s not sure whether to kill him or put the industrial-sized box of condoms they find to use. Bottom line—Ryan’s career military and hates the tiny town she loves. He’ll leave, just like everyone else in her life. And if she’s foolish enough to give him her heart, he’ll take it with him.

My review: ***** (5 steaming hot stars!)
I am not even sure where to begin with this! Let me start by saying this is one hot sexified packed book.

When Bri and Ryan are set up on a blind date things are a complete snark fest before they ever get out the door to leave. The snide remarks they throw at each other will make you giggle to yourself.
When Ryan returns Bri home from their disaster of a so called dinner date that is when things catch on fire. And though they realize they hate each other they can’t stop themselves from thinking about touching the other one. There is some major sexual chemistry a mist going on.
They both want it but at the same time don’t want it. But they can’t hold out long. In fact Bri never makes it back inside her house after returning from the date.
They go on to try and hide their sexual debacle from their friends.
The book only gets steamier when Drew and Avery (Ryan’s brother and Bri’s friend) concoct a plan to leave them stranded in a cabin for the weekend.
Being locked in a cabin in the middle of no where with snow outside there is only so much two can do…. hint hint.
I really enjoyed both leading characters. They were well written, and easily imagined in my head while reading.
It boils down to Bri helping Ryan open up about hating his hometown. She helps him see it from her point of view.
Ryan helps Bri realize there is more to life outside of reading books to a beta fish in a bowl. And to overcome her fear of abandonment.
This story has everything from snarky comedy to omg top the charts sexiness.

“Bri was not the kind of woman who indulged in flings. Then again, she’d never considered herself a candidate for one-night stands, either.”

“No way in hell had he just had his mind blown by this woman, only to have her pat him on his head and leave him alone on the front porch.”

Bayou Stix book 2.5 release date

Skye Turner released the following news today:

Alluring Ties is a companion novella to the Bayou Stix series. It’s Book 2.5 Bayou Stix. In Alluring Turmoil, we were introduced to Lexi Sloane’s two best friends, Bradi and Erik. Alluring Ties will take you on a journey into their pasts and bring you to their present.

Bradi St. James is a force to be reckoned with. She’s strong, independent, and has something to prove. All of her life, she’s watched the world around her and is determined to have a different fate from what she’s grown up with. The path you’ve always believed to be the right path, may not be your destiny after all.

Erik Jenson is a kind man. A nurturer and the kind of friend everyone wants to have. Growing up surrounded by friends and family who support him, he’s a confident man. The choices he must make and the chances he must take as he lives and grows make him the strong, loving man he becomes.

Alluring Ties contains explicit sex, including some male/male, strong language and is not intended for anyone under the age of 18 or anyone who does not like M/M romance.

***Alluring Ties is a VERY different book than either Alluring Turmoil and Alluring Seduction and is not recommended to be read as a stand alone.

Lander is still the target, but once Bell gives in to her desire to touch him, he starts seeming much less like an enemy… Which is why her anger is more necessary than ever: Memories of her mother must help fuel her quest for justice to the very end.

My thoughts: ***** (5 stars!)
I am a huge Kyra Davis fan. I own all her books and couldn’t wait for this release. Did I mention this is release day for this hot new book? Once I got it loaded oh my iphone (my kindle copy never came) I was good to go. I settled down and read the entire thing in one huge setting. Finished it just as the kids alarm was going off to get ready for school.
The flow to this book was great. It was a fast easy to read serial that had you painting it into a movie in your head. It was very easy to visually imagine the story itself and how each character could come to life.
I love how she kept you hooked. I kept thinking to myself I need to get up and sit this down to finish later, but I was hooked, I couldn’t step away from it.
This story covered revenge, murder, and mystery. It left me asking so many questions. I want to know more about Lander. It will leave you begging to know if it is February 17th yet the next release date for Deceptive Innocence Part 2

Wanted by J. Kenner (review)

“For fans of Fifty Shades of Grey, Bared to You, and Release Me comes an all-new erotic series of three enigmatic and powerful men, and the striking women who can bring them to their knees.”
On January 7, 2014 J. Kenner released the first book from her new series A Most Wanted (Novel). If you remember J. Kenner was the author of The Stark Trilogy (Release Me, Claim Me, and Complete Me) which made my “Top reads of 2013 list.”
Now lets take a look at her newest book Wanted: A Most Wanted Novel.;
Title: Wanted: A Most Wanted Novel
Author: J. Kenner
Release Date: January 7, 2014

Blurb: He is everything I crave, all I desperately want—and he is everything I can’t have.
Evan Black embodies my every fantasy. He is brilliant, fierce, and devastatingly handsome. But he is also headstrong, dangerous, and burdened with secrets.
My family warned me to stay away, that I could never handle Evan’s dark dealings or scarred past. Maybe I should have listened. Maybe I should have run. But our desire is undeniable, and some temptations you just can’t fight.
And from the moment we touch—the passion between us consuming us both—I know that I will never be the same.

Chapter One

I know exactly when my life shifted. That precise instant when his eyes met mine and I no longer saw the bland look of familiarity, but danger and fire, lust and hunger.
Perhaps I should have turned away. Perhaps I should have run.
I didn’t. I wanted him. More, I needed him. The man, and the fire that he ignited inside of me.
And in his eyes, I saw that he needed me, too.
That was the moment that everything changed. Me, most of all.
But whether it changed for good or for ill . . . well, that remains to be seen.

My thoughts on Wanted: ***** (5 stars)
After reading the Stark Trilogy and getting introduced to this series, I couldn’t wait for it to be released. You won’t be disappointed and it was well worth the wait. Now on to a new wait for the second book to come out.
The writing was great. I feel that J. Kenner has a gift of giving you a story that you can imagine the images in your mind while reading. The book had great well defined characters. The flow of the story was also great, I felt like I didn’t want to put it down, I just wanted to keep reading to find out what happens.
Simply put I loved everything about this book. From the mystery to the thrilling suspense on to the hot steamy sexual tension, this book was a roller coaster full of emotions for sure that you didn’t want to end.

From a friend: Leanne- “I finished this book tonight. I simply gobbled it right up! SO GOOD! I eagerly await the next book in the series. I mean it! It was fabulous!”

J. Kenners introduction about the characters:
The Men
Evan Black. Tyler Sharp. Cole August.

Brilliant, fierce, determined. Sexy as hell. And utterly dangerous.
They make their own rules, find their own way, and to hell with anyone or anything who tells them otherwise, be it a cop, a court, or a woman.
They’ve spent over a decade watching each others’ backs, protecting each others’ secrets, and relying on each others’ talents.
They’ve taken risks, said “fuck you” to the law, and made a tidy profit in the process.
There’s not a scheme they’ve concocted that they haven’t pulled off, not a desire they haven’t achieved.
And there sure as hell isn’t a woman they’ve pursued that they haven’t caught.
None, however, have captured their hearts.
None, until now.

The Women
Angelina Raine. Sloane Watson. Katrina Laron.

Three completely different women, each with a unique way of looking at the world.
Each with secrets and ambitions she holds close to her heart.
And each more than capable of standing on her own two feet.
None are looking for a man. But whether because of lust, greed or duty, each woman finds herself in a forbidden bed with the one man
capable of crashing through her defenses and taking her—both physically and emotionally—to her breaking point and beyond.
It’s a dangerous game—and what’s at stake is everything.
