excerpt

“Can you believe this?” I closed my eyes, and the tiny specks felt like confetti falling delicately on my face.

He turned my face toward his. “Look into my eyes, Mrs. Roberts,” he whispered. “There’s nothing on this earth more gorgeous than you, in this moment. I refuse to take my eyes away from you.” He continued to search my eyes, just as if he was seeing me for the first time. “From this moment on, you’ll never be alone. Never, for as long as we fly together, will I ever let you fall.” He rested his forehead against mine.

“I love you,” I breathed onto his lips as the snow continued to fall around us, turning the earth bright white in the pitch-black darkness.

Meet the Author

annie rose welchBorn and raised in New Orleans, Annie has a habit of shortening her words and telling long stories. She speaks with a southern flair and cooks with it too. At the tender age of twenty- one, she hitched up her wagons (took her first plane ride) and moved out west to the big shake (California). Her writing career began one sleepless night when she imagined a gorgeous woman and a man with maniacal hair floating above her like lightening bugs falling from the sky. Curious about them, their story, and why they were floating around in her head, she sat down and penned (typed) her first novel, Marigny Street. A dream come true for her, she hasn’t stopped writing since. She loves a damn good love story, always has, no matter what the genre. She is particularly moved by imperfect love that in its own unique way is perfect, the notion of love at first sight, soul mates, and things that are generally out of the norm.

When she’s not writing she enjoys dabbling in photography and finding new, inspirational music to add to her collection. She currently (still) resides in the big shake (although her southern roots are calling her home) with her husband, daughter, and their two peculiar dogs, Boudreaux and Tabasco (who, call her crazy, bark with an accent).

Defensive by JD Rivera

Defensive by J.D. Rivera
Once you find the love of your life, it’s all sunshine and roses, right?
Not for most relationships and definitely not for Vanessa Smith and Jackson Berrios.
Vanessa Smith is finally divorced from her awful ex-husband and is in a committed relationship with basketball star, Jackson Berrios. Vanessa’s ex-husband has come back into her life just when she needs a friend. The friendship could complicate the relationship between her and Jackson. Will the couple be able to get through their pasts coming back to the surface? Can two different circumstances tear them apart or sear them together? Will they iron out their problems and have a happily ever after…?
Characters:4  Plot: 3.5 Overall: 4
After reading Gaurded it left me wanting to know more about the characters backgrounds.
In this book Defensive if picks up right where the Novella left us. We do get to learn more about each of the characters and the secrets they all seem to have from the past. I found this book to be a little predictable at times.
Vanessa’s decisions made me want to slap her. While you wanted to feel sorry for Jackson. The entire book was filled with things that kept them apart. Made them second guess. Tons of obstacles were in wait for Vanessa and Jackson. And while it took a tragedy and friends to bring them back together we are left with a HEA.
J.D. Rivera lives in Oklahoma with her husband and two boys. Her life consists of school projects, homework, cartoon shows, and little league sports. She loves Diet Mountain Dew, the OKC Thunder, costume jewelry, the beach, and reading.

In the small country hamlet of Paradise,
Tennessee…Faith waits. Surrounded by her loving sisters, Faith McKinnon had
faced her own demons, having thought that the love of her life had deserted
her.
But fate…and a few meddling McKinnon
sisters…conspired to bring the two star-crossed lovers together again.
NOTE: Romantica — this is a romance with erotica
in certain sections!!

You like that don’t you, baby?” he asked huskily between wet kisses while he twisted her other nipple between two fingers. “You like me playing with these gorgeous little raspberries you have.”

God, yes,” Faith gasped, wrenching her lips away from his as she moaned. “Harder, Cain,” she begged.
Pinching and releasing the tempting little buds he held, he kissed a slow tender trail down her creamy neck, pausing only long enough to lick her throbbing pulse before moving on to one lush, perfectly formed breast. “So pretty,” he murmured before pulling her nipple between his lips and raking his teeth against the sensitive skin.
Yes!” Faith breathed, cupping her palm against his shaved head as he ate at her breast. “That feels so good,” she panted, wriggling in front of him in a bit to get closer.
Yeah?” Cain mumbled around her nipple before kissing a path across her chest to the other breast. Swirling his tongue around the taut peak, he smiled. “Finger your clit, baby,” he ordered in a low voice. “Get that pussy ready for my tongue,” he growled, sucking her nipple sharply before using his teeth to gently bite the engorged flesh.
Drawing back enough to watch Faith slowly slide her hand down her midriff, he licked his lips when two of her fingers spread her labia and stroked the pink pearl peeking from beneath its hood. “Oh, now that’s beautiful, darlin’,” he praised as she shivered in his arms. He could see the light touch of her fingers ratcheting up her desire, her juices coating the slender fingers she used to pleasure herself. “That’s it,” he encouraged softly, mesmerized by the sight of those delicate digits stroking over that cluster of nerves at the apex of her sex. “That’s how I want you to touch yourself while I’m gone, and every time you do, I want you to imagine me between those milky thighs. Think about how good my tongue feels when I’m licking you nice and slow.”

Sarah O’Rourke is the alter ego of two
best friends who have taken their passion for romantic fiction and erotica,
along with a slight twist into the paranormal, to the publishing world. Born
and raised in the southern United States, one lives near Louisville, KY, while
the other resides in Atlanta, Georgia. Neither is ever very far from a tall
glass of sweet iced tea, their dog-eared copies of Gone With the Wind, or their
Steel Magnolias DVDs!

Second Summer – Book One in the MacLarens of Fire Mountain Contemporary Romance Novella Series.
In this passionate Contemporary Romance, author Shirleen Davies introduces her readers to the modern day MacLarens starting with Heath MacLaren, the head of the family. The Chairman of both the MacLaren Cattle Co. and MacLaren Land Development, he is a success professionally—his personal life is another matter.
Following a divorce after a long, loveless marriage Heath spends his time with women who are beautiful and passionate, yet unable to provide what he longs for . . .
Heath has never experienced love even though he witnesses it every day between his younger brother, Jace, and wife, Caroline. He wants what they have yet spends his time with women too young to understand what drives him and too focused on themselves to be true companions.
It’s been two years since Annie’s husband died, leaving her to build a new life. He was her soul-mate and confidante, she has no desire to find a replacement, yet longs for male friendship . . .
Annie’s closest friend in Fire Mountain, Caroline MacLaren, is determined to see Annie come out of her shell after almost two years of mourning. A chance meeting with Heath turns into an offer to be a part of the MacLaren Foundation Board and an opportunity for a life outside her home sanctuary which has also become her prison. The platonic friendship that builds between Annie and Heath points to a future where each may rely on the other without the bonds a romance would entail.
However, without consciously seeking it, each yearns for more . . .
The MacLaren Development Company is booming with Heath at the helm. His meetings at a partner company with the young, beautiful marketing director, who makes no secret of her desire for him, are a temptation. But is she the type of woman he truly wants?
Annie’s acceptance of the deep, yet passionless, friendship with Heath sustains her, lulling her to believe it is all she needs. At least until Heath drops a bombshell, forcing Annie to realize that what she took for friendship is actually a deep, lasting love. One she doesn’t want to lose.
Each must decide to settle—or fight for it all.
Second Summer is the first book in the MacLarens of Fire Mountain Contemporary novella series—heartwarming stories of difficult choices, loyalty, and lasting romance. Watch for Hard Landing in the Spring of 2014.
TEASERS
Book Excerpt 1:
“Well, not really. It doesn’t matter anyway.” The room felt hot. She’d have to check to see if Eric had changed the setting.
“Why’s that?”
“I called it off with him tonight. That’s why I drove out to see you, to let you know.” Annie moved into the family room, trying to create some distance.
“So, it’s just you and me now, Annie. No doctor and no one else, right?”
“No, no one else.” She’d backed up against a wall. Heath now stood not a foot away. “I don’t understand what you want from me,” she whispered.
He took another step forward, placing his hands against the wall on either side of her. “Oh, I think you do.”
Book Excerpt 2:
Annie looked behind Heath to see Diana in an almost there outfit, barefoot, and holding a bottle of wine in one hand.
Reality dawned like a sledgehammer to her solar plexus. The intense pain almost doubled her over. She stepped back from the door.
“I, uh, I guess this is a bad…” she couldn’t even get it out before she turned and ran. Tears already filled her eyes, blurring her vision.
“Annie wait! Don’t leave, please!”
She could barely hear his voice. The ringing in her ears made it sound as if she were in a tunnel. Her head began to spin as she opened the car door to climb behind the wheel. She fumbled with her keys. She looked up to see Heath dashing outside. He’d grabbed a shirt and was buttoning it as he made his way to her car.
“Annie! Don’t go. Let me explain.”
Book Excerpt 3:
So this was Heath, Annie thought. Caroline hadn’t told her too much about him, but had always warned her away. His situation was complicated Caroline had said. She had told Annie he’d been married for a long time to a woman he’d met in high school. Annie assumed it was the standard marriage of high-school sweethearts gone wrong as the two matured, but Caroline had almost snorted when Annie had used that phrase. She knew he had a reputation for being seen with a different woman at each event he attended, even if all were stunning, tall, and, according to Caroline, ten to fifteen years his junior. At least now she had a face to put with a name.
Shirleen Davies
photo shirleenProfile1_zps1ee45ffc.jpgI have been writing most of my life, but only recently began the transition into fiction. Historical romance, contemporary romance, romantic suspense, and short stories are what keep me reading, so that is the focus of my writing.
I was born in California, grew up between a growing beach town and a small town at the base of the San Bernardino mountains. My mother originally planned to name me Katherine, but she read an article in the paper about a woman named Shirleen shortly before my birth, so instead of having a cool nickname, like Kate, I am simply Shirleen. My mainstays growing up were all the Nancy Drew mystery books; I loved them. Eventually I moved on to mysteries, suspense stories, crime novels, and romance. Pride and Prejudice will always be one of my favorites.
Besides California, life changes have allowed me to live in Oregon, Colorado, and Arizona. Everywhere I have lived has been inspirational in one way or another, giving me the opportunity to meet remarkable people with their own stories to tell. I’ve sailed, skied, owned horses plus lots of other animals, and ridden various off-road vehicles. I enjoy dancing, fishing, hunting, being the back-seater on my husband’s Harley, traveling and, of course, reading and writing.
Prior to transitioning to writing fiction, I worked for Fortune 500 and many smaller, start-up companies. Fortunately, I regained my sanity long enough to start my own consulting firm, which I still maintain today.
My husband and I spend most of our time at our main home in the mountains of Arizona and our second home in Southern California. Between us we have five boys with growing careers and families of their own. So, from my perspective, my life is a success and always an adventure. I wouldn’t change a thing; well, except finding more time to write.
I love hearing from readers, so please feel free to email me at shirleen@shirleendavies.com.

I walked into the kitchen and dumped the bottle down the sink. I started the coffee pot and made it strong. I was sure he hadn’t eaten anything, either, so I opened his fridge and started to make him something to eat. I ignored all the comments he made about my coming in as if he wanted me there, but I stopped cold at one comment.
“I used to think it was hard to compete with a ghost, but now that they are coming back in the flesh, I can’t compete with them at all, can I? All this time I’ve spent trying to save you and you were just lost, but they’ve found you now.”
I started taking out stuff for sandwiches and grabbed the bread on my way to the counter that he had his head on. I reached over and ran my fingers through his hair. “Kyle, there’s no competition for you to worry about. It’s just baggage from my past that I have to work through, but I am all yours.” I wanted it to be true, but I started to think about that kiss Johnny had given me before I left, and I was still confused. I needed to fix this with Kyle, though.
Kyle grabbed my wrist and pulled me around the counter to him. He hugged me close. “If that were only true, Livy. If that were only true.”
I hugged him back. “You haven’t called me Livy in a long time. I’ve missed it.”
He pulled back a little and looked in my eyes. “I have a confession to make.” I tilted my head and looked puzzled. “I haven’t been calling you anything. When I say Liv, it isn’t your name. After you bought those sleeping pills, I’ve been telling you to live every chance I can—especially at the more stressful or anxious times. It just worked out that it could be a play on your name.”
I looked at him as if I had never seen him before. It was as if I truly got him for the first time. I thought back to key times that he walked up to me and just said live. It had helped me, even if I thought he was just saying my name. I knew then I was completely in love with Kyle. I cupped his face and kissed him lightly on the lips. “Thank you for taking such good care of me even when I didn’t see it.” I hugged his neck tight. “I have confessions of my own to get out tonight, but I need you to sober up before we talk.” I pulled away, poured him a cup of coffee, and then started the sandwiches.
MeetTheAuthor
B.L. Mooney started writing when the voices and storylines in her head ran out of room. They were getting too cramped and neither B.L. nor the characters could take it anymore, so she did the only thing she could do–she made room. She always knew she wanted to write, but vowed to make time for it later. Now that she’s made time for writing, most everything else falls to the wayside. That seems to suit the characters that keep popping up just fine.
B.L. lives in the Midwest and her other talents include in-demand cookies, a very dry sense of humor, and stealth eavesdropping. Some mannerisms, attitudes, or twists come from random sentences picked up while passing by strangers. So speak up the next time you have something to gossip about. You never know, it may just end up on the pages of the next book you read.

Meet the Author

Afton Locke is a multi-published erotic romance author who prefers romantic fantasies to everyday reality. Fantasies take her everywhere–from other worlds and races to the top of a corporate desk. She lives with her husband, dog, several unnamed dust bunnies, and a black cat that can be scary or cuddly, depending on the current book. When she’s not writing, Afton enjoys hiking, cooking, crafts, and reading. Visit her at Ellora’s Cave and http://www.aftonlocke.com.

Dawn Montgomery loves to write almost as much as she loves to read. She has traveled the world twice over. While her days were filled with long hours and hard work, her nights were left for dark, lustful fantasies in and out of strange hotels and cities.

Alaska and Texas are the places she calls home. She recently moved from the frigid North to Texas with her family and neurotic dog. It was tragic to leave behind the moose and bear for wide open plains and sexy cowboys.

Delaney Diamond writes sweet and sensual romance novels and is the site manager of Romance Novels in Color, where diversity in romance is celebrated. Originally from the U.S. Virgin Islands, she now lives in Atlanta, Georgia. In her spare time she reads romance novels, mysteries, thrillers, and a fair amount of non-fiction. When she’s not reading or writing she’s trying out new recipes or traveling to an interesting locale. Find free reads and the first chapter of all her books at http://www.delaneydiamond.com.

Eve Langlais Hello, my name is Eve, a Canadian mom who works full time as an author. In between juggling my three kids, hubby, and housework, I pen steamy romance–usually with shifters, cyborgs or aliens lol. I love to write, and while I don’t always know what my mind is going to come up with next, I can promise it will be fun, probably humorous and most of all romantic, because I love a HEA.

Eve Vaughn has always enjoyed creating characters and stories from an early age. As a child she was always getting into mischief, so when she lost her television privileges (which was often), writing served as her outlet. Her stories have gotten quite a bit spicier since then! When she’s not writing or spending time with her family, Eve is reading, baking, traveling or kicking butt in 80’s trivia. She lives in the Philadelphia area where the love is brotherly and the cheese steaks are plenty.

Farrah Rochon, award-winning author of the popular Holmes Brothers series, hails from a small town just west of New Orleans. She has garnered much acclaim for her New York Sabers football series for Harlequin’s Kimani Romance imprint. She has been nominated for the prestigious RITA Award from Romance Writers of America and an RT BOOKReviews Reviewer’s Choice Award. She spends way too much money on chocolate and Broadway shows.

Koko Brown is a quintessential erotic romance junkie. Koko’s writing career began at the tender age of nine when she self-published and distributed a newspaper to her fellow classmates. Unfortunately, her principal put her out of business after one best-selling issue. Undaunted, she continued to write and read everything she could get her hands on until she published her first erotic novel in 2007. When not writing or reading, Koko loves to travel, shop in thrift stores, ride motorcycles, and serving as a volunteer.

PAIGE TYLER is a USA TODAY bestselling author of sexy, romantic fiction. She and her very own military hero (also known as her husband) live on the beautiful Florida coast with their adorable fur baby (also known as their dog). Paige graduated with a degree in education, but decided to pursue her passion and write books about hunky alpha males and the kick-butt heroines who fall in love with them. When I write, I can’t write scenes out of order. It drives me insane. I have to be driven to that point in order to express the characters’ emotions to my full capacity. It’s not organic to me.

Book 1:

What would you do if the love of your life doesn’t want the same life you do?
Hadley Beckett has failed in not only her career, but as a daughter, friend, and girlfriend.

Hadley’s longtime boyfriend, Finn Wilder, who is Richmond, Virginia’s local daredevil and favorite sportscaster, isn’t afraid of anything…except for LASIK surgery, dancing, marriage, and kids—the last two being what Hadley desperately wants with him. Finn leads a very public life; however, he leaves Hadley in the dark about most of it. Despite his public persona, Finn is viciously protective of his private life. Excluding their families, his best friend and Hadley’s friends, nobody knows he has been dating her for three years. Finn loves Hadley and he knows she wants to get married. Nevertheless, he has his own reasons for not wanting to marry her.

Fearing at 33 that she will soon be too old to have kids, Hadley wants Finn to change his mind and marry her, yet her insecurities about his seemingly charismatic personality and his constant rebuffs have her questioning her aspirations. With conflicting advice from her friends, Hadley concludes she should take things into her own hands.
Would he change his mind then?

Finn pressures Hadley into moving in with him, but being traditional, she wants to be married first and she wants to stick to her beliefs, just as he clings to his own. Finn has tolerated Hadley’s stubbornness long enough and he’s reaching his breaking point.

Finn Wilder has his own story to tell.
so hard

Book 2:

In the follow up to “Chasing the Wild Sparks,” Hadley Beckett’s quest for wedded bliss perseveres…

What would you do if the love of your life were closer to making your dreams come true?

Riding high in her relationship with her sportscaster/local daredevil boyfriend, Finn Wilder, Hadley Beckett makes plans concerning her future with Finn. Big plans.

Spending time with Finn at his parents’ house for Easter, Hadley can’t wait to share some of her ideas with him, hoping he will go along. She knows she has an uphill climb ahead of her, but she’s optimistic that after what they recently went through, Finn will be receptive to what she has to say.

Infamously anti-marriage, Finn promised Hadley he’d consider taking her to the altar if she gives him more time. Diving headfirst and with encouragement from her best friend Morgan, Hadley devises a backup plan if Finn can’t make a decision soon. However, her other close friend, Rod, disagrees with Morgan’s advice, partly to just oppose her in spite, but also having actual valid points of his own. Feeling conflicted, Hadley takes both of their suggestions and blends them together, formulating her own way to handle Finn.

On the other hand, unbeknownst to Hadley, Finn has plans of his own as well.

Hadley is determined to succeed, yet is she unwittingly destined to fail?

She also heads Red Road Editing, a full-service editing company for independent authors and commercial clients.

Fun Facts

1) Many of the animals in “Fragile Creatures” are inspired by real ones that I have personally worked with.

2) “Fragile Creatures” features my favorite animal – the giraffe (contrary to popular belief that it’s the cat.

3) The Neverending Story is my favorite movie. It taught me to dream and to believe in the impossible.

4) The fastest and most surefire way to get and keep my attention is to open the discussion with mention of an adventure.

5) I have a slight addiction to Doritos. I could easily go through a bag in one sitting. But, I do still hold a grudge against whoever made the decision to end Blazin Buffalo & Ranch Doritos.

6) Sometimes I think I’m borderline agoraphobic. I hate leaving the house, but all my book events are forcing me out of my comfort zone, in a good way. I admit though, no matter where I am, I can’t wait to get home and snuggle up on the couch with my comfy couch blankets.

7) I have worked as a shorebird rehabilitator, vet tech assistant, zoo education exhibit guide/goat keeper, and golf course beer cart girl.

8) As much as I love to write, I don’t write every day. I think if you try to force creativity, you’re missing the point.

9) I spent two weeks in Ecuador helping a small village in the Amazon, helping to build a new bathroom for schoolkids and a greenhouse for the entire village. I’d give anything to go back. I was also tear gassed in Quito during the same trip. Purely a misunderstanding!

10) I am a terrible self-promoter, which is why I hired a PR agent. I am uncomfortable at trying to talk highly of myself.

11) Of all my novels, “Fragile Creatures” is the book I am most proud of.

12) In the Keys, I got to hang out with a sea lion named Mimi. She gave me a kiss and it was the best thing ever.

13) One day, I want to live in a cabin in the woods, or in a beach house on a remote island.

14) My first novel, The Helping Hands, was published when I was 17.

15) My Cherokee name, given to me by an Elder, is Usti Kamama, or Little Butterfly. The butterfly is the only creature able to transcend realms. It is said that if you capture a butterfly, whisper to it your greatest desires and let it go. By releasing the butterfly, you are restoring the balance of nature, and so the butterfly will bring your wishes to the spirit realm and to the Creator, who alone can understand the thoughts of butterflies.

16) Along those lines, the goose is my spirit guide. The goose is the keeper of childhood imagination, the origins of writing and storytelling.

17) “Fragile Creatures” is my first YA novel, one that I purposely wrote without the usual love triangle, even if people do keep trying to read one in …

18) My childhood dream was to marry Raphael, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle. Or, be a vampire. OR, a Jack Sparrow-type pirate.

19) I once painted a tabletop mural for a local restaurant. They have since remodeled and removed all the painted tables, sadly, but for a while my work was on display.

20) My very first short story, “The Mystery House,” was inspired by my great-great Uncle Louis’ house in Columbus, Maine.

Review of All Our Love

When I first looked over the line up for this book I was amazed at all the great Authors that were included in this anthology. Usually I will recognize a couple in a list of anthologies, but with this book I knew every Author who contributed so I couldn’t wait to start reading.Once I started reading I found myself not wanting to put it down. This is always a good sign! I was worried before I started reading that I would have a hard time reviewing since it would be a list of different stories all in one book. Well that notion was thrown right out the window. I enjoyed every story in the book and would give them all 5 stars. This helped me to write this. The title of the book really defines the book. In each story there is lots of emotions but it always relies on one thing, and that is Love. While there are 11 different stories by 11 amazing Authors, all of the stories work together in a way to make one big book about Love and the title is perfect. In each individual you will find romance, love, and stories you can even relate to. And while I enjoyed all the stories. The one story that stuck out most for me was Have my Heart by Rene Folsom. Her story centered around a biracial couple with a child. This is something you don’t find very often. Even in todays world writers seem to stray away from this subject.Overall this was a great collection of Love Stories. Some of them left me wanting more. I would suggest this book to anyone who believes in love. Love really does conquer all.
